Study Finds Women with Celiac At Risk for Depression

Women with celiac disease are more likely to suffer from depression and eating disorders than the general population according to a new study from Penn State University, Syracuse University, and Drexel University.

Josh Smyth, professor of bio-behavioral health and medicine at Penn State says of women that are following a strict gluten-free diet that,  ”..even those people who were managing their illness very well reported higher rates of stress, depression and a range of issues clustered around body dissatisfaction, weight and shape when compared to the general population.”
